Wholesale sales in Alberta rose by 0.2 per cent in November to $6.7 billion, according to Statistics Canada.
The federal agency said on Tuesday that sales in the province were driven by “higher sales in the machinery, equipment and supplies subsector.”
On a year-over-year basis, sales were up by two per cent in Alberta.
Nationally, wholesale sales fell by one per cent in November to $63 billion, more than offsetting the 0.7 per cent increase in October. Sales were down in five of seven subsectors, representing about 82 per cent of total wholesale sales, said the federal agency.
“The machinery, equipment and supplies, and the building material and supplies subsectors contributed the most to the decline in November, while the motor vehicle and parts subsector posted the largest gain.
“In volume terms, wholesale sales decreased 1.2 per cent,” explained StatsCan.
It said wholesale inventories increased for the third consecutive month, up 0.7 per cent to $88.9 billion in November. Gains were recorded in four of seven subsectors, representing about 41 per cent of total wholesale inventories.
